Prayer Focus: The World

Bible Reading: Genesis 10-11

Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” (Genesis 11:4)

That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth. (Genesis 11:9)

Thousands of years ago, men wanted to be like God, make a name for themselves, and be in control. Some things never change! Only God is sovereign and in control. Even the most brilliant and powerful have limitations. God did exactly what the people feared—He scattered them and prevented them from communicating.

There are times when I want to be like God and control things. I want to tell God what to do rather than humbly seeking His will. It has been said that God created us in His image and we returned the favor! May I never seek power or fame for myself, but rather for the glory of God.

LORD, You are in control and I’m not. I know that in my head, but my heart and flesh yearn to do things my way. Give me the faith and vision to see that Your ways are best, You can be trusted, and it’s good that I’m not in control! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
