Bible Reading: Job 1-5

His wife said to him, “Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!”

He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”

In all this, Job did not sin in what he said. (Job 2:9-10)

Job was a “blameless and upright,” a man who feared God and shunned evil (2:3). He was wise enough to understand that God is in control and we are not. He was able to accept both good and trouble—the rain and the sunshine—from the Creator.

I prefer to accept good from God rather than trouble! I’m quite sure this is part of the human condition. It’s difficult to see through the rain and receive the blessing that it brings, usually fruit and growth in our lives. I want to be “blameless and upright” like Job and have the faith to trust God in everything.

Dear LORD, I have so many questions. There is much that I do not understand (far more than that which I do understand!). Renew my faith. Increase my vision. Lead me to greater acceptance of the rain in my life, even though I prefer sunshine. Help me to get a glimpse of how You are using trouble in my life to draw me closer to You. Thank You for the way You have used trouble in the past to shape me into the man that I am today. Please give me the grace that I need to accept and address today’s trouble. Great is Thy faithfulness! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
