Bible Reading: Exodus 33-36

All who were willing, men and women alike, came and brought gold jewelry of all kinds: brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments. They all presented their gold as a wave offering to the LORD. Everyone who had blue, purple or scarlet yarn or fine linen, or goat hair, ram skins dyed red or hides of sea cows brought them. Those presenting an offering of silver or bronze brought it as an offering to the LORD, and everyone who had acacia wood for any part of the work brought it.

Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” And so the people were restrained from bringing more, (Exodus 35:22-24; 36:6)

It’s hard to imagine telling people to stop presenting offerings to God! There was such an abundance of treasures (many obtained from the Egyptians during the Exodus) and generous giving of those treasures that Moses ordered the end of offerings.

What would happen if the people of God today were generous? If every Christ-follower in the USA were to tithe (10%) to their local church, we could end world hunger overnight (if money were all that was needed; there are political and other complications), plant countless churches, provide support for multitudes of missionaries, and so much more. Oh that God would tell us to stop giving to His work in the world!

Awesome God, everything we have belongs to You. I pray that Scio would be a generous church, that the Church in USAmerica would be generous, and that we would recognize that everything we have belongs to You. To whom much is given, much is required. We have been blessed with abundance. Show us how to be good stewards of all that we possess. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
