Bible Reading: Numbers 29-32

Scripture – Num 29:1 “‘On the first day of the seventh month hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. It is a day for you to sound the trumpets. ”

Num 29:7 “‘On the tenth day of this seventh month hold a sacred assembly. You must deny yourselves and do no work.”

Num 29:12 “‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. Celebrate a festival to the LORD for seven days.”

Num 30:2  When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.

Observation–  Throughout the book of Numbers, and in particular the books of the day, we see quite plainly the hand of God on his people.  God gave directions for everything they did.  The above verses are the opening verses to the Festival of Trumpets, The Day of Atonement,The Festival of Tabernacles.  As the passages continue the Lord outlines in finite detail what must be done and when it should be done.   In Numbers 30 the Lord tells us the importance of keeping our word/oath, as well as when and when not it is binding.

Application –  We can use the Bible to see God’s hand today.  Maybe we don’t have to sacrifice bulls, rams, and lambs like they did in the time of Moses.  But we do have to be truthful and forthright in our promises and vows to God and Man, and obey his precepts.  As we read through the Bible this year, challenge yourself to see God’s hand on his people and how God’s hand is on your life.

Prayer –  Lord God, you are the ruler of heaven and earth, you made the mountains, and the seas, you made the mouse and the mountain lion.  Even so you have time to help us, and show us the way in our every day lives.  Thank you Lord God, for your laws and instructions, and thank you for your son, who became the ultimate sacrifice for all and provided a way for us to come to live with you.  Amen.
