Bible Reading: Joshua 7-10

On the day the LORD gave the Amorites  over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel:

“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon. ”
So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on  its enemies,

as it is written in the Book of Jashar.

The sun stopped  in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a human being. Surely the LORD was fighting  for Israel! (Joshua 10:12-14)

You always want God on your side! As remarkable as it is to imagine the sun standing still (the longest day in history!), the last sentence speaks so clearly. I want the LORD fighting for me! I want Him for my ally.

God’s commands were not rocket science. He said follow and obey and you will be blessed, yet I struggle daily to truly follow and obey. This passage is encouraging, though, because God will fight for those that follow Him.

LORD, I want You on my team! I deeply want to know You—not merely about You—and follow everything You commanded in the Bible as well as those prompts by the Holy Spirit. Thank You for Your miraculous power and Your involvement in my daily life, even when I fail to recognize it. In Jesus’ Name,  amen.
