Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 28-31; Psalm 121; 1 Chronicles 10

Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.  (1 Chronicles 10:13-14)

Saul had the world in the palm of his hand. He had God and the Israelites cheering for him to succeed, yet he sabotaged himself, disobeyed God, and died as a result. What a tragic waste of a life.

Does God punish those that disobey Him? Absolutely! We reap what we sow. We won’t all be struck down by God like Saul, but we must reverently fear, honor, and obey the LORD. We will never regret it.

LORD, I fail You daily—in so many ways—yet I want to want You. I want to obey You. I want to be faithful to You. Thank You for the reminder of the consequences of sin in this passage. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, faithful, obedience spirit within me. Thank You for Your grace and forgiveness. I love You, LORD. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
