Bible Reading: Psalm 49; 84; 85; 87

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper  in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

LORD Almighty, blessed  is the one who trusts in you. (Psalm 84:10-12)

These beautiful words—made famous by Matt Redman’s song “Better Is One Day”—reveal the awesome presence, power, and beauty of our God. The verses are rich with descriptions and promises. How great is our God!

Do I really believe these words? Is one day with God really better than a lifetime (or eternity) elsewhere? Why am I prone to rush my times with God? Why do I often find so many things more appealing than prayer?

Father, I’m so sorry for not spending more time with You. I want it to be said of me that better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere—better than Disneyland or the Super Bowl or the beach! I want to want You more. Draw me close to You. Thank You for the powerful truths of these verses. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
