Bible Reading: Psalms 3; 4; 13; 28; 55

22     Cast your cares on the LORD
and he will sustain you;
he will never let
the righteous be shaken.
23     But you, God, will bring down the wicked
into the pit of decay;
the bloodthirsty and deceitful
will not live out half their days.

But as for me, I trust in you. (Psalm 55:22-23)

This song of David is filled with emotion—fear, anger, and ultimately trust in God.

I know intellectually that God is sovereign and in control, but when I am offended, my instinct is to react, retaliate, and fight. Most people are aware of the phrase, “Vengeance is mine, says the LORD,” yet we often want to take matters into our own hands. I take great comfort in these verses. We are encouraged to go to God with our stuff. There is a promise that God will take care of us. Then we see another promise that the righteous will never be shaken (there are times when I want to respectfully disagree, though I understand the intent!). We then see that God will, indeed, carry out His vengeance on the wicked. In the end, God is trustworthy.

Awesome God, I praise You for your faithfulness and trustworthiness. Forgive me when I get impatient with You and Your judgment of others—even as I want to postpone (actually cancel!) any judgment or discipline of myself. I know You can be trusted. Renew my faith. Expand my vision. Thank You for allowing me to cast all of my burdens and cares upon You. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
