Bible Reading: 1 Kings 7-8; Psalm 11

When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple. The priests could not enter the temple of the LORD because the glory of the LORD filled it.
When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, saying,

“He is good; his love endures forever.” (2 Chronicles 7:1-3)

I can only imagine what it would be like to witness fire from heaven, a consumed offering, and the glory of the LORD filling the temple. Even Hollywood’s best would have to work hard to recreate the scene for film audiences. The response of the people indicates fear and respect, but also awareness of God’s great love. Rather than fleeing in terror, they drew near to God, worshiping and giving thanks.

I am awed by the truth that God now dwells within…me! Followers of Jesus are now home to the Holy Spirit of Almighty God. Wow!

Amazing God, You are good. Your love endures forever. Consume me with Your presence and power. Remind me of Your desire for me to humbly surrender everything in order to allow You free reign in and through my life. In my life—and in Your Church, LORD—be glorified. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
