Prayer Focus: Iceland

Bible Reading: 1 Kings 15:25-16:34; 2 Chronicles 17

The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David before him. He did not consult the Baals but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel. The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor. (2 Chronicles 17:3-5)

It seems so obvious: follow God and receive His blessing; turn from God and watch your world crumble.

Following God is a daily challenge. Even wise Solomon lost his focus and suffered the consequences. Jehoshaphat is one of the few kings that “followed the ways of his father David.” He experienced the LORD’s favor as a result. Of course following Jesus does not guarantee immediate, physical wealth and health, but we will never regret our obedience.

LORD, I never want to turn away from You. I know that every day I fail and disappoint You—and myself—yet I want to honor You in all that I do and with all that I am. Thank You for the numerous reminders in Your Word that following You is always worth it. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
