Bible Reading: Micah 5-7

Scripture

With what shall I come before the LORD
and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
with calves a year old?
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?
Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:6-8)

Observation

Moses was given the Ten Commandments. Micah gives us God’s three requirements. Jesus later gives us the Great Commandments (love God and neighbor). We are told here that God is not as concerned about our gifts as much as He is that we act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him.

Application

How have I acted justly this week? Has my life demonstrated a love for mercy? Am I walking humbly with God? These are questions I need to ask daily as I seek to truly follow Jesus and put my faith into action.

Prayer

This is my desire, LORD, to honor You by acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with You. Show me where I need to grow. Guide me to my next steps with You…and my neighbor. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
