Bible Reading: Jeremiah 41-44

Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the LORD your God sends you to tell us. Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the LORD our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the LORD our God.” (Jeremiah 42:5-6)

The people decided to seek the LORD…and obey. They understood that obedience produces the LORD’s favor. It does not guarantee an easy life, but it is God’s love language. They undoubtedly counted the cost of following the LORD…and realized the alternative would result in a much less desirable outcome!

Oh that we would boldly seek to not only know God’s will, but also to obey it, regardless of the consequences. Rather than wincing, hoping He doesn’t send us to live in a hut in Africa or fast from everything we enjoy, God delights in us. He wants us to experience joy and an abundant life. He’s not out to get us, but rather longs to know us, love us, speak with us, and respond to our obedience by allowing things to “go well with us.” What have we got to lose?!

LORD, I pray that You would speak to me, guide me, and give me the courage to boldly obey, regardless of the cost. I know You are trustworthy and that anything You ask me to do is ultimately only for my own good. Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
