Prayer Focus:  New Zealand

Bible Reading:   Ezra 1-3; 2 Chronicles 36:22-23

Scripture –“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:

“‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with them. And in any locality where survivors  may now be living, the people are to provide them with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with freewill offerings for the temple of God in Jerusalem.’”

Ezra 1: 2-4

Observation – As we open the book of Ezra, God is setting in place the restoration of his people and the re-building of his temple.  The King of the Babylonians was told by God to let his people go…. And he did.  Maybe he was a historian and remembered what happened to the Egyptians when God said it was time to release them.

Application –  God kept his promise to the Hebrew nation and after a time returned them to Jerusalem.  If he kept his promise to them, he’ll keep his promise to you and me if we are faithful.

Prayer – Lord help us to be faithful in this unfaithful world.  Help us to be beacons of light in the darkness.  That people will say, the one true God resides here, “… and may our God be with us.”
