Bible Reading: Matthew 2; Luke 2:39-52

When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. (Matthew 2:16)

It’s hard to imagine the horror contained in this one verse. The screams of both boys and their parents must have been deafening. One decision by the Magi resulted in the destruction of countless boys.

As horrific as the scene must have been, I can’t help but think about the silent screams of the aborted in our nation and around the world. One-third of my generation (X) is absent (which partially explains why my generation is so much smaller than the Baby Boomers; the Pill is another reason). Whether deaths are public or private, quiet or deafening, the loss of any human life is tragic, especially among innocent children. We can rationalize anything!

Note: to any person reading this that has been involved in an abortion, there is grace, love, and forgiveness extended to you. My heart grieves for not only the unborn, but also the mothers (and fathers) that choose an abortion under what are obviously extremely challenging circumstances. If you are considering an abortion, there are scores of families that would gladly provide another option—adoption. Please contact me at 734.662.5381 for details.

Jesus loves the little children/All the children of the world.

Thank You, Jesus, for not only loving children, but being willing to enter our world as one. I continue to be amazed at the incarnation and Your decision to leave heaven for earth. Bless all of the parents and soon-to-be parents with wisdom, love, grace, and joy. Thank You for the trinity of children that have deeply enriched my life and the life of my bride. In Your Name, amen.
