Bible Reading:  Matthew 4:23-25; 8:14-17; Mark 1:21-39; Luke 4:31-44

Scripture –

Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people.  They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority.  In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice,  “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him. All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!”  And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area. Luke 4:31-44

Observation – These events shown in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke show the beginning of Jesus’ healing ministry.  The accounts in each outline the wonderful miracles and moments of compassion he had for the sick, ill and afflicted.  Also we find the first proclamations of Jesus deity, not by his followers and disciples, but by the ones he came to earth to save us from, the Demons that possessed and tormented people.

Application –  Jesus showed great compassion for the sick and infirm during this period.  He saw people and their problems at their base cause, sin and demons.  He’s still waiting on us to heal us, he wants to take away our sin and make us whole.  Reach out and let Jesus touch you and bring you peace everlasting.  Even the demons knew who Jesus was, shouldn’t we proclaim the same, “I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”  and our Lord and Savior.

Prayer –  Jesus, thank you for your compassion for sinners and your willingness to make us whole.  Help us in our little amount of faith, to reach to you and be healed.   Help us in our unbelief to know the truth, that you are “… the Holy One of God!”   Amen
