Bible Reading: Romans 5-8

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35-39)

Nothing shall separate us from the love of God. Nothing. The original Greek means “not anyone, not anything, not someone, not something.” That means…nothing!

It seems so simple, yet countless people live their lives believing they can do things to make God love them more…or less. They believe the lie which says they are beyond God’s love, their sins are too great, they are unworthy (well, they are unworthy; we are all unworthy!), and God does not love or accept them. This, of course, is from the evil one who wants to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). Oh that we would all know—in our head and heart—that we are truly loved and that God’s love is unconditional and unchanging eternal. Nothing can separate us from it. Nothing!

Awesome God, I praise You for Your amazing love and mercy and grace. I am so unworthy of knowing You, much less being called Your child. So many live in fear, plagued with guilt and shame, falsely believing their past makes experiencing Your love impossible. I celebrate You and the joy of knowing You, despite my sins, failures, and weaknesses. Thank You for this simple yet profound promise that nothing can separate us from Your love. Thank You that we are more than conquerors. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
